Feasibility Study for
the ARTWORKS Project

Through funds from the Department of Community and Economic Development, the BOTTLE WORKS was able to facilitate the hiring of a consultant who then enlisted a planning committee of local leaders and artists. The object of the Study is to evaluate the potential of an industrial warehouse in "Cambria" City as a Torpedo-Factory-type facility. The Torpedo Factory concept-creating a place where artists can work, teach, and sell-has been enormously successful in Old "Towne" Alexandria, VA, and has enjoyed varying success stories in other areas.

What sets Johnstown apart as a viable site for such a Project is the beauty of the environment, affordable living and housing, good schools, friendly people, established artists, and a strong work ethic.

The Committee foresees a Project that

  • Can establish a national cultural tourism attraction
  • Will encourage artistic and cultural development
  • Will support regional tourism
  • Will support and regional tourism by establishing a visible landmark
  • Will support regional economic development goals
  • Will stimulate economic development by enlisting working artists who operate
successful businesses and generate tax revenues

The Project will provide facility support services to artists, educational classes, and provide accessible and dramatic public space for residents and visitors who wish to shop, gather, entertain, eat, meet and learn.
